Live online lessons
Online tutoring for 11+, GCSE and A-Level, live with a real tutor
Quick answer
LCB's online tutoring is live, small-group teaching for 11+, GCSE and A-Level. Your child joins a group of 3–5 with the same tutor every week, at the same prices as our Barking centre: from £52 a month for 11+ and GCSE, and £72 for A-Level. It starts with a free online assessment.
How do live online lessons work?
Online lessons are the same lessons we teach at our Barking centre, delivered live over video. They are not recorded videos or an app your child works through alone.
Your child joins a small group of 3 to 5 students at a set time each week. The tutor teaches, asks questions, and checks each student's work as they go.
Everything else stays the same:
- Same small groups: 3 to 5 students working at a similar level.
- Same tutor every week: someone who knows your child's strengths and gaps.
- Same exam-board teaching: lessons follow your child's board and the 11+ test they are sitting.
- Same monthly report: you get a progress update every month.
- Same prices: online plans cost exactly the same as in-person plans.
What does an online lesson look like?
A typical lesson follows a clear routine.
- The tutor starts with a short warm-up to check last week's topic.
- They teach the new topic on a shared screen, with worked examples.
- Students try questions themselves while the tutor watches their working.
- The tutor goes through mistakes, then sets a short task for the week.
Students can speak, type in the chat, and show their working on camera or screen. Quieter children often find it easier to ask a question this way.
What do we need at home?
You do not need special equipment. Most families already have what is needed.
| What you need | Why |
|---|---|
| A laptop, desktop or tablet | A bigger screen than a phone makes diagrams and papers easier to read |
| A stable internet connection | So video and sound stay clear |
| Headphones with a microphone | Cuts out background noise at home |
| A quiet spot with a table | Helps your child focus and write |
| Paper, pencil and a calculator | Students still work on paper, just like in class |
We send joining details before the first lesson. If anything does not work, we help you sort it out.
Who does online tutoring suit?
Online tutoring suits most students, but not every one. This is our honest view.
| Online often works well if… | In person may be better if… |
|---|---|
| You live too far from Barking to travel weekly | Your child finds it hard to focus at a screen |
| Your evenings are busy and travel time is a problem | Home is noisy and there is no quiet space |
| Your child is confident and motivated | Your child is young and needs more hands-on support |
| You want a tutor who teaches your exam board, wherever you are in the UK | You would rather meet the tutor face to face |
Every plan works in person or online, so you can switch if your situation changes. Read online vs in-person tutoring for more detail.
